Thumbs up VTEC when cold?

Quick question, does the VTEC kick in when the engine is cold?

I left my apartment the other day, and after about five minutes decided to floor it, needless to say, when the car got to 6500rpm it felt like I had hit the brakes? Is this some sort of safety?

It should not have felt like you hit the brakes. However, the oil does need to be a certain temperature before everything will function correctly. I always wait till I have 3 bars on my engine temp before I go balls to the wall.

NO, It's not supposed to kick in until you have 3 bars on you temp. gage.

it's a cold rev-limiter.
try to avoid doing that any more, or it won't be pretty

Yeah... maybe more like Apex_AP1 described...

Its happened twice, at least now I know to wait for 3-bars... out of interest, does it mention this in the manual?

the fuel cuts off if there is not enough oil pressure, making the car feel like the brakes were applied suddenly

other than make your car cry, not sure, but i know that they put that feature on the car to avoid starving your car of oil in the high rpm range so to assess damage would be tough as it is a feature designed to avoid doing damage
