Its not as simple as having the heater on.. is it?
(With the flow on the window so you dont notice it that much)

Just asking.

I just checked the intake manifold on my car (MY 2003), and I do not see any sensor either. There is a threaded bung cast into intake runner to #4 right next to the manifold, and what looks like a freeze plug on the firewall side of the manifold itself.

Since cdelena has a car made in 2000, maybe there has been a running change omitting the sensor?

The ECT sensor is in the same place. look behind the air control valve, behind #4 runner. It's there, you just can't see much of it.

You should be able to take the cap off the radiator with the engine cold, start the car and then look at the coolant. If you see it moving around alot, the 'stat's probably stuck open. If it's not moving then, it's not stuck open.

You need a real temperature measurement. Someone with a scan tool can hook in and watch the engine temp as you start the car then let it run for awhile and warm up.

I would verify that the temp reading is correct by using a known good thermometer or some such to compare the temp readings with what your display is reading.

You might check Modifry's website for a list of temp vs # bars on display.
