Default Weight loss in wrong place?...

Mods, please move this post if deemed in the wrong place...

I recently pulled the OEM exhaust off and replaced it with Spugen's V2 Ti dual system (Ti cans and tips, aluminized piping). I noticed how heavy the OEM is (I think I've seen figures around 66 lbs), but particularly the fact that the center of mass is just off the cans, meaning the bulk of weight was directly above the back axle. I lost around 30-40 lbs, mostly over the axle, and it seems like the rear end is much more slippery now around turns.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it my imagination? I lost a little under the hood when I went with the AEM CAI, but not enough to compensate, I'm sure. Is an aftermarket exhaust a bad idea when considering overall 50/50 weight balance?

"Bad idea" is a relative term, depending on what you do with the car and who's doing it. I wouldn't get too worked up about it. The weight you removed is not unlike the difference between a full tank of gas and near empty, except we're talking about almost 100 lbs difference here. I don't get too philosophical about performance changes when I see what my fuel gauge says.

Thanks xviper, I can always count on you as the voice of reason. I should probably check my tire wear also. Never considered the weight difference with the fuel (considerable, considering a curb weight of 2800 and change).

Could just be the cooler weather making the tire rubber a little harder.

Sorry about the weather in UK & Canada, but I guess Saud and I pay for it in the summer. If it makes you feel any better, I'm off to Austria for 3 months beginning in January... My only saving grace is Karnival in February!

Took a look at my tires last night. Rears are definitely going the way of the Dodo, wear bars are starting to show, though not all the way across. Should I just go with Potenza S02s again, or switch to 03s? Or something new altogether?
