Hey, I was driving the car today about 3pm and realised the clutch the gear changes werent normal as i drive to accelerate from stop it revs out but the car wont go then slowly it will connect and it will go same with the rest the gear changes, its as though its slipping then connects eventually. I took a look at the clutch fluid and its full. its now 11pm and just took the car for a drive and the clutch seems perfect. Can anyone explain why this happened? Is my clutch on its way or gone?

 

Well, if you tried to "gun" it that first time it acted weird............you just did it wrong and probably glazed the clutch plate. Did you smell it later?

Usually a couple starts from a stop will clean off the plate and you'll be fine.

However..............that is the telltale sign of a dying clutch, but only of it slips all the time. I found that as mine was going, anything over half throttle would cause it to slip. It is exceedingly difficult to drive a sub-half throttle - hehehe.

are you on the original clutch?

 

it did smell and it was the 1st time it slipped that much and yeh its the original clutch and does about 84,000kms, it seemed to start slipping after the mechanic adjusted the clutch cable under the steering wheel

 

There is no clutch cable.

 

then he adjusted something down there that took 30seconds

 

it's easy to mess up the clutch, by not adjusting the clutch pedal/rod correctly..its an easy adjustment to mess up with serious consequences.

 

I i didnt know that, Im still new with the s2ks and manual so ill take it into a honda mechanic so he can have a proper look. thanks for the help guys much appreciated

 

To figure out whether or not you need a new clutch. Start up your car and put it in neutral. Then pull up the parking brake and keep your right foot firmly on the brake pedal so that the car will not move. Next, you put it into 6th gear and slowly let off of the clutch. If it stalls immediately then your clutch is fine. If it stalls after the engagement point then you need a new clutch. I did this test on my00 and it did not stall until my foot was almost off the pedal!
