weird transmission roaring noise when decel
ok so i noticed this noise about 2 months ago after i took my exhaust off and went back to stock before you ask i have checked all heat shields and it is coming from inside the transmission. it is a harmonic roaring noise that probably happens in every gear but is more prominent in 3rd and 4th maybe because of the ratios but only on decel or very slight throttle pressure between 2500-5500 rpm i have a aftermarket clutch by clutch.net i took the car to honda it is a 03 with 80000 miles on it and after 250 in diagnistics they said they think it is the tail shaft bearing and it is 3600 to replace bearing (rediculous) i have been tempted to buy a used trans and just put it in but does anyone have any advice that would help i dont think it is the tailshaft bearing because the noise seems to change sounds with rpms in each gear and i thought the tail shaft bearing would slow evenly regardless of gear depending on rear end rpm's so maybe input shaft bearing???? i dont know they could pinpoit for me so any help would be appreciated..
thank you in advance and any idea on where i can get a good used tranny for a decent price???
thanx

nope.. and it can be really loud. When I put my hardtop on I even started noticing other pitches of noises coming from the transmission that wind noise had been masking. When I replaced my OG clutch 12000 miles ago, like someone above said the clutch buzz on decel got even louder..

Not only did this thread crack me up, it also eased my mind as well. When I read about the tech's diagnosis and estimate it made my heart drop because my "clutch buzz" seems a bit extreme.. so I was thinking that I was in the same boat. Thanks again for spelling out the sound effects! haha
