Went to the $tealer for the "clacking rear"
I booked myself for a 105,000km Service and told the mechanic that I had the common "clacking rear end" problem. No biggie, he said.
I pick up the car in the evening, and he tells me that the sound comes from the rear axles. They need to be taken apart and put back together again. This process takes 5 hours or 250 EUR. Would you like to schedule an appointment, Sir?
He did not try the re-tightening of the axle spline nut trick, and he believed that this 5 hour inspection is the only way. If that fails, then the axles themselves need to be replaced for big bucks.
Sounds kinda strange, eh? He had no idea about any US TSB about this (I'm in Germany). Think I should go somewhere else for another opinion?
BTW, it's just this clack sound that's obvious. There is nothing whatsoever odd about the driving manners of the car.

If you really think it's coming from the bearing, go to another shop and tell them that the nut needs re-torquing. Might as well try the cheap fix before they take apart the entire rear end.

I'll be taking my S in this weekend for it's regular maintenance and to have the back clanky noise taken care of. I hope they don't try and pull a boner on me like they did with you

Try emailing twohoos, I think they did this fix at Buttonwillow racetrack a couple of weeks ago and it didn't take them that long.
I believe you switch axle sides to equalize the wear.
