It is a ball joint...and it looks like the rubber seal has torn so all the grease has gone out. It's not part of the lower control arm...it's on the knuckle. I'm not sure if a replacement ball joint is made that you can have pressed in, you may need to replace the knuckle.

You can try refilling with grease and replacing the rubber boot, but if it has started knocking, then it may be better to replace it.

I have a writeup on replacing the boot on the tie rod, FYI.

http://www.eskimo.com/~mikeg/S2000/tie_rod_boot/

This is not the same boot you are looking at in this picture, but the process would probably be similar.

Its best to replace the joint. You could get away with a new seal and repack the grease but the damage could have already been done. This part is safety critical.

thank you for the link, I asked my local dealer for price for replacement of the joint, they told me $369. It's too much for me.
I'm gonna do it myself or try to find somewhere else.

Do I need wheel alignment after replace the joint?

I did it, don't have a DIY though, or pics. Sorry.

Yeah, you need a knuckle, or as they also call it, spindle.

I got mine from a local junkyard, $125 last year. Replaced it myself, and yes, you will definitely need alignment. I had lifetime alignment from Firestone, so it was a free 2-hour deal.

The part directly underneath the cracked rubber part, the 'loop' portion of the control arm (or A-arm) will have a flat area on the opposite side. That's where you hit with a 2-lb hammer, while someone's applying pressure as if trying to break them apart. Then they will come apart with a few hits. You just gotta hit it like you mean it.

Good luck!
