What can it be?
Hey guys. I'm Johnny from Southern California, I've had my s2000 for about 2 years now and I bumped into a problem.
Situation---
I was driving along the freeway (pretty hard), everything was going ok, so I exit the freeway and get to my destination & my temp gauge is in the RED ZONE! I was wondering what it could be I didn't remember hitting anything. So I step outside and check if my radiator was cracked cause I smelled Coolant & saw my hood steaming. Nothing wrong there, well nothing visibly wrong. I don't get what it can be. Does anyone have any idea what the problem can be? I push started my car and drove as far as I could than my car just died on the freeway smelled like I burnt the sh*t out of something. I know it was stupid of me to drive when it was overheating... Any input please I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks Johnny

The problem could have been something simple but you kept on driving. If you smell coolant and see steam then there is something visibly wrong. Sorry to be insensitive but do let us know how you like your new rebuilt engine.
It was probably a really simple problem in the beginning when it started to overheat such as low coolant level or an air bubble trapped in the coolant.
But now your motor is almost surely destroyed. I'm probably wondering along with everyone else here why you made the conscious decision to keep driving instead of shutting it down immediately to save the engine?

My ex kept driving her Mustang even though a RED warning TEMP light came on the dash. Of course, her engine seized shortly after. Well DUH!! Pay attention to your dash alarm lights!!!Be a dipstick and pay the price! The reason alarm lights were originally installed was to help female drivers. Female drivers didn't check the gauges so RED lights were installed to get the female driver's attention when there was a problem. However, females paid no attention to the red light alarms. When questioned, the female drivers said that they paid no atention to the RED dash alarm lights because the car continued to run. Manufacturers have continued to develop warning gauges and devices to fore-warn the automotive driver. The question here is just how much should the automotive industry foretell what the average driver is able to drive at an advanced level? Females still ignore any attempt to get their attention to any mechanical problems that might arise. We just can't their attention with dash alarm lights. RED lights don't get their attention. Yelow lights don't work either. Very frustrating.
They need to do what Bobcat has done with the skid steers. Light comes on, beeper sounds, and you've got 30 seconds to get yourself in a safe place, then the computer shuts the engine off. That'll get your attention!

Maybe car manufacturers need to incorporate an audible alarm. Have it tied into the radio also... so it shuts the radio off and makes it clear that something is wrong.
Even for the best of us drivers "idiot lights" can go unnoticed for a length of time if you are concentrating on the road in heavy traffic or a windy road.
Let's sue because the manufacturer failed to incorporate a device that reads the driver's mind. Let's sue sue sue!!! Let's make a ton of money because the car designers didn't design some device to protect us against us. Ooops, didn't mean to malign the honorable legal profession!!!
