Default What da heck is that?

I recently had an accident and the body shop replaced the left front suspension with new springs and shocks. I took a look today after I got the car back. There's this rubber mount on the spring. The rubber is pretty damn hard. Then I look at the other side which doesnt have it. Is it safe to take that out? or that replaces the bump stop on the shock? (I am guessing no) Is it one of those things the prevent from bottom out?

thanks

Those should have been removed. It's there in new cars to reduce movement when shipping the car, and should be removed in prepping. Maybe jacking the corner a bit might make it easier to remove.

You've been rolling around for about 3 years with those in the springs and didn't notice the crappy handling?

he said he just he had the springs and shocks replaced - and the shop neglected to remove them (at least I think that's what he's saying)

What you need to think of carefully is:

Are the rubber spacers in your original shocks?
What caused the accident?

If it was from the car losing control - and it wasn't being driven like it was stolen, you might want to have a word with your lawyer or dealer.

I am wondering if they are "new" because the spacers were there to lift the car's suspension for freight and dealer delivery. There's no need for a new shock and spring (likely sold separately) to have just one spacer on them. Normally there's more than one - like four or more per spring.

Or whoever did the job, saw the rubber on the old springs and just transferred them over to the new springs thinking that's where they belong.

One thing is that the spacers are NOT new. New ones (or slightly old ones) are nice and black or very dark grey. The red stuff is not present on spacers on a new car.

The picture also shows me that the shock and spring look dirty. From the post I see you drove it for a short while after getting it back then you took pictures. When looking at the shock and spring, does it at least look like a new shock?

From what I see, the spacers look old. Older than the shock looks anyway. Did you try calling the shop and asking about the spacer?
