i have heard a few people talk about certain types of exhaust drone. what does that mean?

to me, drone is when the exhaust tone hits and stays at one annoying audible note, you can almost 'feef' the sound as well as hear it, and it's constant.

 

It's a resonance some aftermarket exhausts have - it's from them having a specific frequency they resonate at that causes sounds in that range to by much louder. For example, my J's Racing exhaust is significantly louder at 4000rpm with partial throttle than at 9000rpm with full throttle.
