Default What is the lift up Thing in Center Console

Just curious, what is that lift up tab that is in the cupholder area of the center console ?, I can't figure it out. I didn't see it mentioned in the owner's manual. I feel dumb for asking this but it has my curiousity. My 02 came with an AP2 center console, so perhaps it is something that wasn't on the 02 console ?, dunno. Thanks for any replies on this.

Push on it to have it flip up. It then holds a cup. Push to flip it down and you can hold a sammich. Is that what you're talking about?

It's supposed to be spring loaded. You don't pull up on it. You push down and it springs up. That may have been part of the problem. If someone pulled up on it, they could have broken the latch mechanism. Or perhaps it got messed up in the retrofit.

Don't steer this guy wrong, it's the secret switch, lets you rev to 8000 RPM in an AP2.

yeah I have to lift it up in order to get it out of its slot, then it just drops back into place, it is no longer spring loaded. That sucks, some would have broken it in the past then. I may take a look at it when I pull the center console to lube my shifter in the near future, maybe the spring is still in the part somewhere underneath. Thanks for the reply to such a small concern.

It should go "click, click" when it latches and unlatches.

FAIL. Have you checked what the redline on an AP2 is?
