The question is do you want power or reliability. The two really don't go together. For good power and reliability I would say go with a supercharger 289-300hp to the wheels give or take. Or turbo where you don't where the next problem might pop up but with ability to make 350+hp to the wheels. My personal opinion I would go with a supercharger, because I've had a high horsepower turbo car and it was a pain getting tuned, running right and on and on....

I don't see reliability as that different between s/c and turbo. You'll find people who swear by both. I see plenty of s/c's in high-reliability trucks so I lean that way.

What is important is fuel-air ratio and avoiding detonation. So if price doesn't matter then don't forget to lower your compression, use the right fuel pressure (pump & injectors), keep active knock sensors, etc. etc..

I think its easier to get more power out of a turbo, but the supercharger will be more reliable. If you got the money, rebuild the engine for the turbo. Stronger internals, lower compression and bigger radiator will help make it more reliable. Just make sure you have it done at a good shop who knows what there doing and has tuned turbos before. Nothing looks more intimidating on a car than a huge intercooler peeking through the front bumper.

Personally I am going comptech s/c in a week. I dont have that much cash to blow and I have a everyday driver.

a car with a shotgun peeking out the window does ..or a chevy with a 502 and a 440mega blower peeking out of the hood with a scoop on it .thats gonna run ya roughly 700hp and atleast 500ft/lbs...much much much scarier then a big intercooler !!

Speaking of that the dealer at the mitsu shop was like Man check out the intercooler i bet your noticed it on 2f2f ...i looked at him and said "oh,you think i watched that rice boy movie?" he said "oh , you still like the car without the movie?" "yes i knew about lancers when they were still in japan" him "they were in japan?" me "bye bye im leaving"

since price does not mater.... this would be my suggestion.....

for max HP do the following:

lower comp piston - JE - $400
Turbo kit - varies from $5000 - $6400
stand alone - $1200 - $2500
bigeer injectors - $700
Custom exhaust - $700
Gauges - $500
PP head with over sized Ti values - $2000

+ labor - this will vary from $ 1000 to $5000 depending on what you can do yourself

grand total for worst case scenario = $18200 + $2000 just incase money = $20,000
edit:
Proper tuning will make the car as reliable as your stock S....

Hah. If, by some miracle, you get 500 HP you'll be blowing up your clutch, LSD, half-shafts, ... (the rest of the drivetrain) in very short order. Always sounded like half of anyone's HP budget needs to be spent on beefing up the power path.
