For what it may be worth, I emailed the Tech Dept. of "Road and Track" magazine, and asked those people what would be the best mod for low end torque. Their response (which was in the April, '03 issue) was not very encouraging. Basically, they said that virtually any kind of supercharging or turbocharging was going to put too much stress on the clutch, transmission and the rest of the driveline right down to the rear wheels! So, unless I wanted my car in the shop more time than in my possession, I'd better forget about supers and turbos. "R&T" recommended the chip that cuts in the vortec at 4k instead of 6k as about all the extra "oomph" my driveline would take. They also recommended the possibility of a catback. Strangely, no mention was made of CAIs or other intake mods.

Again, this is just what I was told. You can read it in "R&T".

Thanks,
Richard

I think you can run the vortech or comptech blowers with just a upgrade PP and clutch or atleast that is my impressions it isnt huge gains in hp..Beroz you really think its only 5k to make a drivetrain in these rice rockets to handle 500hp?I would figure much more

Also look at the strengthened differential housing that Comptech sells. I heard that is one of the major weakpoints of this cars. But it seems that the Comptech/Vortech Superchargers are the easiest setups to get good hp from. The turbos are more complex to install but of the kits (Speedcraft & Stage 6) I heard they are very reliable as well (though Vortech had some problems in the beginning with wrong FM and Speedcraft had some IC cracks) .

More power = less reliability. This is a fact. The question is how much reliability are you willing to give up to get to a certain power level. Race cars have tremendous power, but the engines are rebuilt after each race. Do you want that?? Probably not.

More mods also means more maintenance to prevent major breakdown. My opinion is a supercharger gives you optimal performance vs relaibility.
