Default What is this plug in the trunk?

Anybody know what this plug in my trunk does? Should it be plugged together?

I just looked at mine (trunk is already apart) and I only have the female end of the plug. I have no hardtop, but the soft top defroster is father forward in the car, I believe. What year is your car? Mine is a 2002

Edit: This may be a little far-fetched, but could it be an 'add-on' for vehicles sold in Europe/Canada having to do with emissions or safety? Maybe it was somethign not mandated until 2004 for vehicles in the US.

only thing I really see in that area of the trunk is the rear window defroster wiring as there is supposed to be a relay in the driver side area of the trunk.
