That's a garage door opener in case you lose the one in your car, you can open the hood and then open your garage door.

Sorry I don't have anything else other than the picture. It's hard to see where the wires lead to. Looks like there's another thing mounted on the intake tube just above that "garage door opener" as well?

LOL. The zip ties made it look like the a 3-button garage door opener, doesn't it?

Is the transponder usually mounted in the engine bay? I never track so I don't know. I found this picture on the dealer's website when they listed the car for sale.

Plugs into battery. From EBay ad:

Installation instructions - Please read
Step 1: Connect the (+) terminal from the D1SPEC to your (+) terminal on your battery, followed by the (-) to (-) (also known as ground).
Step 2: Mount the product in a location away from too much heat or vibration.
Step 3: Plug the black grounding cable into the D1SPEC, then ground the metal tip into any metal chassis or existing bolt on the frame of the vehicle.
Step 4: Optional Step, use the provided ground cables as you choose: Make additional Grounding points from battery to chassis of the vehicle. Make additional grounding points from alternator to body of vehicle. Basically the more wires grounding the chassis the better the electrical flow.
