Default what are the weak points in the drivetrain?

i have a '01... ive heard the differential is a weak point... and that people have cryo-treated the diff's to make it stronger... how are the other components? transmission? driveshaft? axle/half-shaft's? joints?

im planning on forced induction (300-400 rwhp down the road) and was wondering which components i should look into beefing up...

thanks.

the weakest point in the diff on both the ap1 and ap2 is the bearing caps. they can flex under heavy load, even on a stock S2000. comptech reinforced diff is honestly probably your best bet.

the FI guys have also had rear axle work done. diff technics, a site vendor, i believe has parts available for the rear axle/half shafts.

actually the weakest part in the diff is the teeth on the pinion gear

100% right.... the comptech isn't a bad idea but i am going to skip it for now... anything over 330whp is a most though.

how is the tranny? gear dogteeth? syncro's?

will cryo treating the differential take car of both the bearing cap and pinion gear issues?

would that be stronger than getting the comptech diff housing?

thanks.

this isn't necessarily true. there are people who are FI who have the stock pinion and gear, but have the comptech diff and have had no issues.

sure when you see a broken diff it's usually because some teeth snapped off. howver, the reason this happens is because of the bearing cap flex. when the bearing caps flex, this pulls the ring gear away from the pinion, causing the teeth to ride up and make contact higher up, where the teeth are thinnest. this is what can cause the teeth to snap off.

what are the weak points in the drivetrain?, in an AP1 ?
In so many cases that we've seen on this forum since the day it started, the weakest point in the drivetrain would be the driver.

I have not seen any concrete numbers stating that "cryo treating a part will make it X% stronger". Until some metalurgist comes up with such data, I consider cryo treatment at bit abstract.
