If your car has been consuming quite a bit of oil (like 1-2 qts every 3000 miles) wait till this consumption has "tapered off". This should be starting to happen soon for you. Most will convert over sometime after 10K miles but each car is different.

i haven't vtec-ing that much. i checked the oil levels off and on and haven't notice any oil loss. so it's safe to say... use sythetic maybe around 13k.

That should be fine. Your manual says you can change over to synthetic around 10K.

I'm curious. In which manual does Honda indicated that the use of synthetic oil is recommended AFTER 10000 miles? I have a 2001 that has been consumming rather copius amounts until just recently at 12000. At this point it seems to be using considerably less. Did Honda come out with some further directions concerning this problem AFTER the 2001 manual? Thanks

I've got two copies of the '00 manual. (I bought the car used and found the manual in the car after I'd ordered one with the service manual - no, it wasn't in the "secret compartment".) Neither copy says anything about waiting to change to synthetic oil.

Honda found out later that the engine consumes oil up to around 10K miles and had an addendum to the manual. I know that my '01 has it in there.
