Default When to replace brake pads

I just bought my 2004 s2k about a month ago with 26,900 miles, it now has 30,500 and i have done the oil, transmissio, and differential fluid changes. I wanted to ask about the brake pads. I'm not sure if they were replaced before by the previous owner since he did not mention it when i bought the car. When should i replace my brake pads and what kind of brake pads should i stick with. Are the oem for the 04 fine to go with. I dont hear any noise when i break, if anyone needed that info.

Thanks

John

Replace when they're down to a couple mm thickness. OEM is best for the street. DIY thread here:

there are squeal indicators that will squeak when they get worn down to that point. oreilly's auto parts sells semi-metallic pads for $19 a pair, I am going to try those sometime.

I've found the S2K has unusually long brake pad life. I've had customers with 80k, with 50% still remaining. It seems everyone that asks to check their brakes never needs them.

Track time will change all that

I'll be having you check mine out on the 20th Billman, I'm hearing a little squeal when I brake, when the pads get to a certain wear point, do they start to squeal even if not down to the indicator? Could it just be that they are cold, although I will hear it sometimes even after I've been driving a while.

Also, is there any braking performance loss when you switch to AP1 pads if you own an AP2? I know the AP2's oem brakes dust more.

the fronts will only squeak when you press the pedal, the rears will squeak even when not braking.
