Where did my V-tec go?
Maybe I am being overly sensitive, but it seems that my car doesn't have the "kick in pants" at V-tec that it used to? Yes, I tried to search ("vtech not working...problems with v-tec..et al) with a big, fat 0 for matches. Any thoughts......
if you have aftermarket ECU, that will make the curve to be very smoth that you won't notice as much VTEC kick in as before. Even the spoon header does smoth out a little VTEC kick in feeling, but for the header I could be wrong..! However, that is what I felt after I installed the Spoon header..
Thanks Utah,
My oil is OK, but I am running all snythetic. However, I PMd Gernby and he made a good point....that my V-tec is still engaging ie. I hear the change in motor tone, but the transition is smoother with the CAI. HMMMM, seems like a pretty good explanation. But keep the suggestions comming.
NOTE To XVIPER aka Guru: Why didn't YOU think of the CAI! My faith in you as the Master of All Things Mechanical is shaken....LOL

Actually, having a smooth vtec transition is a good thing since the torque drop before vtec is lessened. You get continuous power rather than a dip then pick up which is the vtec kick sensation.
Try searching on VTEC and synthetic. I did and I found 401 responses. Here is one of the top ones: Do You Miss that VTEC Surge?
Utah S2K said it all: low oil, cold temp. and synthetic. By the way, no one has ever shown, as far as I know, that changing to synthetic hurts performance. All we know is that, according to the butt-meter, the VTEC bump is gone. That might be ideal: get the power, lose the sudden power change at the rear wheels.
