My daughter's Acura TL has a 6 speed manual transmission and we were going to do a drain/replace as a fun father/daughter event. Brand of MTF was not critical. I stopped by several auto parts stores and even Wal Mart for basic MTF and no one, NOBODY had any. Some auto part employees were not sure the difference between auto trans fluid and manual. They looked at me like an alien.

I did not want to go the distance (in my geographic case) to get the Amsoil synthetic synchromesh MTF I use in the S, so I stopped by the friendly Honda dealer and got the basic MTF.

Auto stores I've visited have Royal Purple SyncroMax MTF in stock when I've looked. This is LHT Performance's recommended MTF although I don't recall their reasons.

I just have stuck with Honda stuff. I think I ordered off Amazon last. Works well. I have always been one that has never found any real difference in any of my cars switching to that fluid that "makes shifting so much smoother" for some others lol. I think there is something to that on some cars, but I think it is about 90% placebo effect lol. Everytime I have ever switched between brands I have just noticed that my hands got dirty and the car had the proper amount of clean oil in the gearbox

Can't deny fresh fluid makes it shift like butter for a day.

That and regreasing the shifter. I did both at the same time last year. The grease in my shifter was fairly dried out... what a difference.

I think there's a feel good effect, too. Like you feel good you did something nice, for the car.
