Default Whining when accerlation

So my brother has a weird problem that just started to happen last week. Nothing has changed and it was running fine. The car was done for a few months since it was winter in Ohio and he couldn't drive it.

So it appears to whine from the rear of the car only when you accelerate. If you let go of the gas there's no whine but as soon as you push the pedal again you get the whining again.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I gonna guess something that's probably completely wrong. The clutch is going to start slipping in the next couple thousand miles or sooner.

Is there anyone in the passenger seat? I get whining on acceleration whenever my wife is in the car.

Differential backlash may need adjustment, (Check the distance collar hasn't allowed the nut to become loose) or may just need to change differential fluid. HTH

If it sounds like a supercharger it's the diff. Either the backlash is out, and it needs adjustment, or it may have lost a tooth. It would wine going up hills too, but be quiet cruising.

I had the same noise including clunking sounds during slow wide turns and it turned out to be the diff.

Okay thanks guys. I'll check it out. My father said it seemed like it was alittle low on diff fluid and added some more but it was still making the noise. I'll let him know.

Probably should go ahead and change the fluid and not just top it off.
