Touching one terminal alone will not shock you. The only way to make sparks is contact between the positive terminal and ground with a conductor and the human body is not. To be safe I would remove both the positive and negative terminals before cleaning. For cleaning use a small wire brush or an actual terminal cleaner. Don't forget your radio code too. Using protectant does make it hard to jump and IMO is just plain messy. Pick yourself up one of these.
It is technically possible that you could place one hand on the postive (+) terminal while leaning with the other hand on the frame which is connected to the (-) terminal. That could give you a shock.
Just touch only one terminal and nothing else on the car. Either way, you probably won't die. So live a little and try it!

maybe if you had alot of iron in your body but i have been working on cars for a long time and i swap batteries out of toyotas while running all the time with no issues. i even pressure wash battery terminals while running and havent had any issues.
Did anyone actually look at the picture? Yes it is corrosion, but the why is because it was done by a blind monkey. You need a new strap, or a replacement terminal and cut the end off when the corrosion stops.
How much more simple can I be? Cut the end of the broken and corroded connector OFF and replace it. Clean the terminals and drive the car FFS.

well just to let you know, i have own this car for almost 5 years now, had that same terminal for 5 years (its not broken just crimped), 3rd battery, and it wasn't till 2 months ago that i have "started" to see this, so i strongly doubt this is happening because of a "bad terminal" connection. but thats just me
but i am going to follow the instructions of some here and just go ahead and get a nice and "Pretty" terminal and just clean it up
