Default Why is my car hesitating???

Hi everyone. I've been too busy to post for a while, but now with my problem I am back today. My car is hesitating with full throttle right before VTEC around 5,700 - 5,800. I went to goose it on the highway today and it did that. I can repeat the problem everytime I reach this RPM. The car does not shut down such as when the rev limiter is hit but rather you feel the car gaining more and more and more power, then it looses that feeling at 5,700-5,800 RPM, and then VTEC engages and I continue to feel the increase in power with RPM. What the hell is going on?

I also think that I should mention I got an oil change on 2/7/02. Today is 2/9/02. I checked the oil after this happened and it seems to be right on the correct marking and it is almost crystal clear. Nice, fresh, oil. Is there anyway that I would be hurting the car to drive it?

Some dyno plots have showed a rolloff in the torque curve just before VTEC -- have you ever had your car dyno'd?

If this is the case, a V-AFC should alleviate the problem.

Check your spark plugs for tightness!!!!

Failing that take your MAP sensor off and knock it a few time with a screw driver.

Silly questions. Where are the spark plugs? I haven't looked for them until now. Do you have to remove the valve cover?

They are under the black part of the Red and Black valve cover... You'll need a Hex key to take it off. No need to remove the red part of the cover.

You might be better off trying the MAP sensor fix first... If that fixes the problem then chances are your plugs are ok... but many people have reported loose plugs.. some with disastrous results.

When you hit this spot in the RPM range, does it make a weird sound. Like a 18 wheeler J-braking (emergency brake)? If so you might need to clean the screen on the VTEC solenoid. There is a little tiny screen that is within the housing and if clogged, restricts oil flow to the solenoid and camshafts when VTEC would be engaging. Good luck
