Why SOHC instead of DOHC for the S2000?

Damnit!!! At 3am in the morning, my friend asked me why the S2000 has an SOHC instead of a DOHC. Thinking that he did some research and found out it was SOHC, I didn't question him, but rather I believed him. So I did him a favor and posted this thread to get some answers. Now I look like an idiot.

In OHC motors the camshafts (which define when and how much the intake and exhaust valves open and close) are on the top of the engine (head), and either actuate the valves through direct contact (ie, all Honda engines)
