It crossed my mind, but these EPS problems occured after i did the plugs and diff oil... routine stuff. The yellowjacket and gears have been on there around 3 months.

I would swear i messed something up doing the plugs, since it happened immediately after...

i know, but i didnt get a CEL, so i dont think a DTC will come up.
Oh, I thought you said the EPS light was coming on. That would indicate an EPS DTC. If your EPS light comes on, or is on, then the "jumper trick" should display your EPS DTC.

EDIT:If an EPS DTC is stored and you use the "jumper trick" then the EPS light on your instrument cluster, not the CEL, will blink out a code.

I was looking in the Helms, and they list 3 troubleshooting scenarios that do not involve EPS DTC's.
(page 17-23 00-03 edition)

1.)EPS indicator does not
come on.

2.)EPS indicator does not go
off and no DTC is stored.

3.)EPS indicator does not stay
on, no DTC is stored, and
there is no power assist.

Here is a list of the EPS DTC's listed in the Helm's should they prove useful. There seem to be some missing.
EPS DTC's

DTC: 1 Power relay stuck ON
DTC: 2 Fail-safe relay stuck ON
DTC: 3 LOW FET(Motor drive transistor)stuck ON
DTC: 4 UP FET(Motor drive transistor)stuck ON
DTC: 5 Open to body ground in the motor circuit
DTC: 11 Difference of high voltage and lower voltage on the torque sensor
DTC: 12 A problem with voltage for torque sensor VT3
DTC: 13 A problem with average of voltage for torque sensor VT1 and VT2
DTC: 14 Open or short to body ground in the torque sensor circuit
DTC: 21 A problem with the voltage for lG1
DTC: 22 Excessive change of the vehicle speed sensor signal
----------A problem with average for vehicle speed and engine speed
DTC: 23 A problem with the circuit for engine speed signal
DTC: 30 A problem with the sub-microcomputer
DTC: 31 A problem with the initial current sensor offset
DTC: 32 A problem with the main current sensor offset
DTC: 33 A problem with the current sensor
DTC: 34 A problem with the main microcomputer
DTC: 35 A problem with the sub-microcomputer
DTC: 36 A problem with the change of the motor voltage
DTC: 37 A problem with the motor voltage

DTC: 50 to 62 A problem with the CPU in the EPS control unit

EPS light DID come on, but i dont think its linked to any DTC codes... thats only a CEL feature. Someone correctly me if im wrong.

You are wrong.
EDIT: You probably meant someone other than me though.

EDIT AGAIN: Actually SRS, ABS, EPS, VSA (pretty sure) all have their own set of DTC's. I think our HVAC even has DTC's. It may also be worth noting that MOST commercial OBDII scan-tools can only retrieve CEL DTC's, whereas the "jumper trick" can retrieve all of the above listed DTC's (HVAC has it's own procedure and not sure about VSA DTC). Also the "jumper trick" will display a pending CEL DTC.

So you should either have an EPS DTC or fall into one of the three no EPS DTC troubleshooting scenarios.

Anyway, it sounds like Stratocaster and Billman250 have a good idea of what the problem likely is. Hopefully something simple, good luck.

oddly enough, the problem hasnt recurred all week. if it comes back, ill check next weekend. First thing i would do is double check the connections and t-taps on the yellowjacket.

T-taps may not be the best thing to use when an electronic signal is being transmitted where that signal varies in intensity at such subtle levels.

I know he uses "T" taps for power and ground leads - no problem here. However, with the speedo signal wire, that one is actually cut. To connect to the open ends, proper connections should be made.

ps. I just looked over Modifry's install instructions and as I suspected, he doesn't use the T-taps for the actual signal wires. For those, he included a wiring module block with his product. I would check to make sure that those wires are fully plugged in and completely secured. I'm afraid you can't blame Modifry just yet.
