I tried googling the SKUs. It's an internal # for the dealership. I told him the car takes less than 1 quart on the phone and he argued and said "I'm a professional mechanic and I own an S2000. They take 1.5 quarts." He then said my diff prob has this issue because I refilled it and didn't put enough oil in.

Professional? and blames you for doing something he can not prove? Ask him to join us here, we would love to talk to him about the "Diff Service" he performed (and the screwing you got when you paid for the work he did not do)

He told me that to just change the diff oil was $100 plus $7.xx each for the oil. Does that sound right?

Only if their labor rate is over 100 an hour. But than again, they are a dealer. Did they charge you for the seals they did not replace? Are they listed by part number on the invoice? They would need to be as that is how they are kept track of.

Here's the prob- I went to Honda almost exactlya year ago (18k miles)for a recall and asked them to change my diff oil. They charged me for a "diff overhaul" without my knowledge where they replaced the seals for the out put shaft and put two $7.16 bottles of fluid in. That msrp is right around the cost of the CRV fluid
Your diff would not have survived a year on CRV fluid.

All this replacing output shaft seals (or not) and filling it up with godknowswhat oil happened a year ago?
Now you recently discoverd a leaking seal and you have a
Sounded like an unbalanced load in the was machine if that helps.
noise in your diff.
This is getting strange..

Anyway..

IMHO drain it and send a sample to blackstone. See if they can ID the oil used.

Gather evidence

There is a way to get 1.5 quart in the diff.. when its on the ground, filler hole facing up.

Yeah, this is a total headache. I picked up a used diff from my friends shop late last night which I will install after work tonight, and I'm going to see if American Honda is going to listen to my case, and hopefully they can look at it off the car. Ever since I installed that last diff I've been driving like a grandma, so I don't see how it could have failed.

Btw, I have longer Driveshaft Shop axles, do I need to pull one, both or leave them to install the diff?

Sorry.. but a MY05 diff is not a bolt-on in a MY00 car.
The propshaft companion flange is different, bigger bolts IIRC.
Swapping flanges is possible... but... IF yo do it according to the Service Manual.. you need to open up the diff to remove the Torsen unit in order to set the pre-load on the pinion bearings....
"Neverending story"

Someone with experience and the proper tools may get away with not opening the diff, but that someone needs to know exactly what they are doing, take measurements, have a "feel" for it, etc.
Not saying that's not you.. just some friendly advise.

Just because I'm nosy : who installed your 4.57's?

You'll need to pop the lower rear ball joints, remove the ABS sensor wire bracket, that should give enough room to push the hub & axles outwards and get them free of the diff's output shafts.
I don't know about the Driveshaft Shop axles though...

Succes!

That sucks! I thought it was bolt in A trans shop in NJ put the diff together for me. Would I be better of just buying an '04+ driveshaft? The DSS axles don't have that centering pin so I only need to move them out a few cm. I heard that the output shafts on the AP2s was longer, so I was worried about making the diff bolt up. Thanks for all your information You guys would make xV proud.
