2-Way Radios
It became obvious that the new Audio-Vox 2-way radios I purchased for WG weren't always compatible with the others used by our vintage group. Sooooooo, its off to Best Buy or Buy.com over the coming weeks to get another set...... Would you let me know what you have.... make and model so I can communicate with the group at the Nor'Easter?
Thanks
Thanks
I have Motorolas, 5400 and 4800. I think they have 3 mile range. I don't find any of them to be exceptional. I doubt that I'd buy Motorola again, I'd probably try Cobra or another known brand.
I also find that I don't use most of the bells and whistles, even though they sound interesting on the package.
Make sure you get FRS/GMRS (I think those are the abbreviations) with all 22 channels. Most often you will not use the subchannels on the drive.
The key to using it on the drive is to have a headpiece or ear bud. Otherwise it is impossible to hear. You have to have one that is made for a two way, a cell phone headpiece won't work without the adaptor.
When you buy, if you buy a set of two, buy a set that comes with the headpiece or ear bud. They are hard to find otherwise. If I were to buy again I'd buy a set with the rechargable batteries and the charging stand.

Ken,
Good advice from Rob. I am usually the radio BI$$$ when we are in the car. I found early on if the top is down and we moving quickly, not much can be understood on the radio. I think I have to get the head piece or ear bud before the Nor'Easter.
Also too many hold the radio to close to their mouths when they transmit. All the other folks end up hearing is garbled static.
