2009 Stanley Cup Thread
Phil, I feel your pain. As Sports Illustrated said last year - "A team for the Ages" "Hockeytown Rules". Go Wings!
I think Hossa is expecting some noise on Tuesday. What a shame Pavel Datsyuk is missing the fun. I know you know the Steelers organization; you've got in football what we've got in hockey!
Dave, is it possible the Red Wings are better than they were last year? Jesus, they're fast! They're older and more beat up but they are simply smothering the Pens!
I do feel a little bit better about having a few goals and a lot of chances through the first two games though. It's a better showing than last year. I'm not giving up yet, not even close. Washington was up 2-0 as well and the Pens dug down deeper and found what they needed to win. This is definitely looking to be a monster task trying to win against these guys, but until the handshake anything's possible.

I agree, it not over; the Pens gave them all they could handle in the first two games - much better than last year. The Wings are older, that's for sure, but their depth that reaches into their farm team in Grand Rapids is really something. I watched a show about the farm team a year ago and they were talking about the potential for Abdelker then but I'm sure at the time they never thought he would be needed or playing in the finals for the Wings. I was really impressed with how strong the Wings played the 3rd period last night. I'm sure Tuesday will be a real test for the Wings.
We have really good friends that live in Madison, AL that are huge Wings fans. We always go to Predator games when they play the Wings. I figure they would be totally planning their days around the playoffs the way we have been doing for the last few weeks. I texted him about two minutes before the beginning of Game 1, "Go Red Wings!", he texted me back about an hour and a half later "@ Keith Urban concert in huntsville. Score?"
Needless to say, I didn't text him back.. he chose Keith Urban over the Red Wings???....I mean, let's talk priorities here!
GO RED WINGS!!!!!

GO RED WINGS!!!!!
Is history repeating itself? Lets hope so.
The Wings got the breaks in the first two games and the Pens got theirs in this one. Wings couldn't capitalize in the 2nd period, which they owned. Pens owned the 3rd, well done. Phil, you can smile now.
No matter, I love this game!! Go Wings.

You mean I can breathe now!
Damn this is some good hockey.
I figured it out, Dave...it's those red shirts! The Wings didn't look nearly as dominating in the whites. I'm organizing a team to break into the Joe and steal their home jerseys and burn them at the Point in Pittsburgh.

Phil, bet you are breathing real good now. The Wings looked like the injuries and intense close schedule caught up with them tonight. You could tell how tired they were by how many times they were sitting on the ice; even Z went down a few times - worn out, trying to do too much in too short a time. Hossa has been a disappointment in this series so far (were there really threats on his life?
) Unless the Wings get some much needed rest, it's looking like a 7 game series. Although I sure hope not, as we're going to an S2000 event in Ky a week from Friday. Do they have tv's in Ky yet? Go Wings!

Phil, sober up.... where are you?
I've had a great deal of respect for the Pens from the start of the playoffs but that cheap shot of going for Datsyuk's foot (after he missed 2-1/2 weeks of play for a foot injury) in the 2nd period when the Pens are down 5-0 really pissed me off. Go Wings!

Dave, sorry, I was in south Jersey all weekend (in Flyers country
). I didn't see the hit on Datsyuk. I hate to admit it but I had all but given up in the 2nd period and turned to drinking and having fun with who I was with. I apologize for all Pittsburghers, sir. We definitely lost our composure big time. From the look of the first 4 games, those were 2 totally different teams out there Saturday.
I hope for a good, honest game tomorrow, and hopefully a game 7...best team victorious.
