Default AARP Smart Driver Online Course

I finally paid a whopping $19.16 to do this online course in order to get a discount on my auto insurance for three years. USAA told me I'll save about $50 every six months with their discount. It takes a minimum of four hours to complete and a person has 60 days to finish it.

Not for me the way I drive. Not aggressive driving, just spirited driving.

I took the performance driving school at Mid-Ohio Raceway. I told my insurance man hoping I might get a discount and he told me that they didn't like to hear anything that had the word "performance" in it!

I find AARP repellent but I might do it for a discount on the insurance. May I ask what it covered online that you think will make you a better driver?

I'm about 1/4th done. It seems to be aimed at drivers with possible health decline due to getting older, who really don't want to admit their decline. I'm NOT taking it to be a better driver. I thought I made that clear but I guess I didn't after reading your post and S2KRAY's. I'm ONLY taking it for the insurance discount.

I've been tossing AARP material in the waste basket for 25 years or more.

The last online driving course I took was to avoid the police reporting I ran a stop sign to my insurance company. I passed.

Sandy and I took the course a couple years ago when we renewed our insurance. Don't recall the net savings but definitely a non-zero amount.

I've taken online traffic school many times over the years. My last time was about two years ago. I got a speeding ticket in California while driving on a two lane road across the Mojave desert. No one around except the CHP outside of view, with radar. I paid the fine and paid for traffic school. The car, my Crosstour, is insured in CA. I didn't want CO to find out about the ticket and raise my insurance. Neither CA or CO raised my insurance rates. Didn't go on my record.

BTW, Dave, why are you averse to AARP? I like their magazine.

No special reason. Just got tired of their endless attempts to get me to join.
