What stops a record label from showing up and just signing him?
I suppose even if they did they want to keep him on the show for the publicity.

Im not sure how this show does it, but on American Idol just to audition you are required to sign a 2 year exclusive contract with the show, namely simon cowells entertainment company 19 entertainment i think is the name.
