Any Bogle-Heads here?
Tonight at a social gathering, I spoke to Jack Bogle for a few minutes. He's older than vintage dirt; had a heart replacement a few years ago; but is still a strong speaker and impressive in person. His wife is one of Kathy's buddies and is almost as sweet as Grannyrod
There's apparently a whole movement called Bogle-Heads.....who lust after anything that he says....sort of like Warren Buffet. Anybody here in that category ?

He's the founder of The Vanguard Group, the original no load mutual fund group that established 'index funds'....largely believed to out-perform (in the longterm) 'managed funds' that charge high fees.
Vanguard is either #1 or #2 in the world re: invested assets (the other is Fidelity group of funds in LegalBillLand). Vanguard is the provider for lots of 401-K, 529 and other tax-sheltered plans.
Jack Bogle is anathema to the 'load' mutual fund industry, but viewed as a hero by a lot of individual investors. Sort of like a VSA in the 'starched' blue suits of wall street.

He's not flashy, but he has built an amazing empire in the fund business. I do loke his philosphies on the "evolution of capitalism" from long term owmership to maximizing short term gains, at the cost of long term investment.
He was a pioneer.

Jerry, I am sure I mentioned to you before when you brought this up that I am a big believer in Vanguard and their investment approach. I don't know that if that qualifies me as Bogle-head. I rolled 100% of my retirement funds into Vanguard almost five years ago. I followed their one-time free advice to letter. After drawing a very healthy living for the 5 years, I still have 100% of my original investment and without any worries. And that was through some rough times in the market.
^^Hope that remains true, dlq. We have a fair amount of $$ invested with V-gard and have had it there for years. It seems to do very well although we have friends who've done better with other places
in the short run. I'm in for the long haul though. One of my best friends simply cannot spend all the $$ she makes with her investments and grieves every year at tax time. She uses an investment broker who apparently really does a good job managing her portfolio. She's been retired for 13 years and has yet to touch her principal and manages to live quite well off her income. Kudos to her, right?
