Average baseball ticket prices
Baseball payroll amounts
The highest payroll, the Yankees, have a payroll more than three times that of Arizona, the team with the lowest average ticket price and 23/30 payroll. An average Yankees ticket costs just over twice what an Arizona ticket costs, but you also have to look at the markets they are in; you'd expect a ticket in NY to be a lot higher than one in AZ, just based on demand and cost of living alone. Of course, this begs the question, does NY have a high payroll because they have in-demand seats, or do they have in-demand seats because they have a high payroll? At any rate, Yankee stadium has a capacity of 51,800. Multiply that by their average ticket price of $29, and you get about $1.5mm, or about 1.5x what the Yankees are paying Clemens per start. Figure 80 home games times $1.5mm game, you've got $120mm dollars, about 60% of the Yankees payroll. So maybe ticket prices are slightly affected by player salaries, but we didn't touch upon luxury boxes (around a million for a season) and TV deals (Yankees is worth about $838mm for 10 years) and promotional fees like corporate sponsors, etc.

This begs the question: why on earth would anyone sit down and reduce to an equation the cost of a ticket at a baseball game in Az as opposed to a ticket to a baseball game in NY? Furthermore, I'm wondering still: do you love athletes or hate them?
IMO, pro athletes are no different than a professional entertainer. They are entitled to earn whatever the market will bear. In fact, they are professional entertainers.
Do I idolize them? No. They are people just like everyone else. Some are jerks, some are nice. Some are full of themselves, some are regular Joes. That's been my experience with the pro athletes I meet.

I've said it before about the music industry and I'll say it again about the athletes: they are not the ones making the "real" money nor (as someone just said) do they make it for long. I don't hear any complaints about how much money the owners and sponsors are making off these guys. I also agree that they're professional entertainers. What would the "sports nuts" watch on TV without them?
I think everybody's having a slow Friday. Let's fight.....I mean, play!
Edit: Oh, and for the record, I love athletes (sports), if for no other reason than they keep you guys out of our hair for a hot minute. (I'm sure this is a sexist statement)

Gotta leave for an appointment, but got my last kick in.
You also have to figure in the law of supply and demand. A small stadium like Fenway Park is prone to higher prices as the seating is limited to a smaller number than those 50 to 70 thousand seats in some arenas. So the cost of the team and support could be the same as everywhere else but the cost of seats would still be higher when they have seasons, where all the seats are sold out. The even resort to autioning off seats. Last time I looked the Green Monster seats for the Giants this weekend were going for well over $1500 per seat.
Tickets to see the Rangers on 6/29 are up to $2000. Oh, please..........

Not surprised by Mickelson's actions at all. I read a while back that he was voted the most hated by other golfers because of his nasty attitude while portraying himself as a gentle family man in the media.
As far as atheletes go, sure most of them are overpaid but we are talking the best of the best here. For every player in the majors, there are countless ones grinding it out in the minors and hoping to make it one day.
