Default auto insurance

We have had several threads over the years about the cost of auto insurance.

I was shocked to see mine just went up 28%. We have a perfect driving record , no claims and qualify for every discount. My AutoOwners agent said the auto insurance industry is the worst she has ever seen since 1981. My company raised rates last July and again this January so I’m getting hit with a double. And, they still offer the best rate. She said there are several insurance companies that refuse to take on new customers and those that do only want drivers with good records. She said it is all being driven by the cost of claims, and we all suffer because of it. She said it’s a nationwide problem.

Last January I did a cost comparison, USAA which many like, wanted 5% more and Grundy wanted 26% more.

Same with me as I have posted in other threads here mine has gone up just about every time I get a new bill. During Covid my insurance company gave us a big break they stated that due to Covid less people are driving so they want to help their customers by giving them a price break and I think quite a few insurance companies did this however since then it keeps going up I think all the floods have added to the costs also insurance companies are passing the costs on to all their customers. I have used the same company on my daily driver for over 20 years and previously it actually went down a little bit every year, I have all the discounts one can get no tickets or accidents etc. I checked around last year and found a cheaper policy with another company but backed out at the last minute as the agent made a mistake with the paperwork and in addition to that I didn’t feel confident in him.
I have had Hagerty for the S for the last 5 years or so and that has not gone up at all.

I have USAA, home and auto bundled, in CO and it's expensive but when I've price shopped they were a good price. In CA I have home and auto bundled insurance through Costco with "Connect Powered by American Family Insurance". I took off the 2005 NSX and put it on Hagerty, so now I only have the 2015 Crosstour on it with my home. It's so much cheaper than CO! I don't want to piss them off because many other homeowners in my HOA there have been dropped due to living in a "fire area". I know the rates have gone up but I try not to pay attention.

State that you live in affects insurance also. My sister is new car shopping and she just got a quote for a new Camry hybrid, for 6 months it was over 4400 dollars She is in Florida and has a clean driving record.

Mine just went up, but just a few percent. I have Travelers on all my cars and house, with the exception of the S2k which is on Hagerty which has not changed since I got it, other than when I increased the value. So many things they tie into the rates it is hard to know the why. Now, 4400 for 6 months???? I would stop driving or just get a beater with liability only if I had to pay that stupid amount. That is what I pay for a YEAR for 3 cars and my homeowners insurance! lol

I have signed up for NOBLR car insurance, a subsidiary of USAA and am so glad I did that. As I don't drive as much as when I was working, life is peachy. I do have to download their app. and it monitors my driving and gives me score. Based on this score, I either get additional credit or charges. So far, I have only received credit. I save a lot having switched to NOBLR. As far as the claims, I haven't used that so I don't know how it will shake out but if USAA is behind it, I am ok with that.

I was about to pull the trigger for Hagerty on my S but a few recent posts about an S that was in an accident left me wondering if that is the way to go. Someone mentioned Hagerty has changed the business model and claims are now taking a very long time.

I heard that a few times, and it is always someone saying "I heard this person say..."

I have only made a claim against their HPDE policy and have not had to on the regular policy. But on the HPDE claim (last Sept) I had an adjustor out within a few days (including the weekend) and had my info back within the week, let me choose the bodyshop, did not question when I found over $2k more damage myself to the suspension and paid fast. No complaints here based upon that. I actually got more updates on the bodyshop progress from the insurance guy than I did the shop. Shop sucked at updating me, answering the phone and staying on schedule but I actually got updates from the insurance !

Check Grundy. I've had mine with them for a while now without any issues, I haven't had a claim but service is good thus far.

I use Hagerty for the 911, again, no claims so I cannot comment on that side, but the service has been good.
