Default Axelrod String Quartet in DC

James Dunham was one of our daughter's viola professors when she did her Masters at Rice University. This is an opportunity to hear some fine chamber music.

From James Dunham -

Dear Friends:

This season's final Axelrod Quartet concerts are coming up soon, and I'd love to invite you all to come if you can! The concerts are Saturday April 17 at 8pm and Sunday April 18 at 7:30pm, and as always Ken Slowik will offer a pre-concert talk one hour before each concert.

We'll be playing in the Grand Salon of the Renwick Gallery, 1661 Pennsylvania Avenue NW (at 17th Street), so there's plenty of room: you can receive complimentary tickets at the door under my name for either of the nights. The program is Beethoven G major, op. 18 no. 2, Brahms a minor op 51 no. 2 and the Schumann Quartet in A, op. 41 no. 3.

I hope you can come and look forward to seeing you there!

With best wishes-

James

Thanks for posting this! When did your daughter get her degree from the Shepherd School? The Axelrod Quartet used to be the the Smithson String Quartet. Robert Axelrod is a major patron. They are very good!

She received her Masters from the Shepherd School in 2005, then returned here to Greenville, SC to play with the Greenville Symphony. She met our son-in-law at Rice and now they live in DC where he plays with the National Symphony Orchestra and teaches at Catholic University and she subs with the Richmond Symphony.

I may have heard them play. I often attend student recitals.

I may have been in the recital hall with you! We traveled to Houston three times for recitals.

The graduate student orchestra was exceptional -- better than many professional orchestras. As my s-i-l explains it, they are all readying themselves for professional auditions, so they are the top of their game.
