This was an annoying week at work -- all week. But compared to everyone else's woes posted here, I guess I made out on the good side of average. My empathy to all of you.

I'd take even a bad week at work after 9 months of unemployment....

Hugs to all who need them, today, this life is getting so complex it is a wonder, sometimes, that the entire infrastructure doesn't just crumble...

You are correct. I tried calling back from my cellphone and got cut off twice. +1 thinks it is absolutely ridiculous we have to wait at least a week for repair. Alas I am at their mercy. The next time they hear from me, I'm going to try to get in touch with the billing department to demand credit for the week of no service.
Val,
You need to immediately contact you state utility commission. (I always use e-mail) and report that you are totally out of service and if there were to be a fire, or other emergency, you would not be able to call 911 !!!

Just because they have laid everyone off and try to use sub-contractors to supplement a skeleton crew does not mean you should suffer. I have done this several times and have had results within 24 hours. Unfortunately, you now have a weekend to deal with. You may see if there is a 24X7 utility commission number.

I worked for GTE ages ago and can explain the game. When they apply for a rate increase, the utility commission looks at the level of service and number of complaints. You can yell at the phone company all day long, to no avail. Sick the utility commission on them and you be amazed at the results.

Just BE SURE it is not in your house. If you go outside and unpluge the connector, plug a good phone in there and have the same problem, it is not you. Another rule of thumb is if you dial your number from another line and it does not ring busy, or ring once and stop, it most likely is not in your home wiring.

Good luck!

I agree. Decades ago I also worked for GTE and nothing would get their attention as much as a complaint to the Ohio PUCO. The number and/or address should be in the front of your telephone book.
