Beth is looking for a new car!
Hey folks, my lovely bride is in need of a new car. She currently drives a Dodge Caliber (what a piece of junk). Does anybody have any opinions on the CR-V? Price wise it fits the budget, I feel the Acura is a little overpriced. Any and all opinions would be appreciated. We are also looking at the Mazda and the Hyundai.
I love my '04 CR-V. I had driven Suburbans for years and it obviously won't haul as much, but mine is a nice little no-frills alternative that gets good gas mileage and will haul more than I usually need to. Also, it's much easier to park and navigate in traffic than the Suburbans were. I hope this one lasts another 100,000 miles, but if not, I'd probably buy another one. My sister-in-law just bought one that has a few more frills than mine and she loves it too. Also, just realized my other sister-in-law (Dean's sister) has one that she loves.
I have a 2006 CRV, great little vehicle that gets decent mileage. I really don't care for the latest body style, I prefer the "older" style. Checkout the latest Consumers, it has a full run down of all the cars including the S.
Youngest daughter has a '99 CRV. Has been very reliable with only nagging problem being door locks that don't (particularly irritating when it is the driver's door
). She's got about 65K miles on it.
I'd also look at a Subaru Outback... or even Forester. IMO, the full-time 4WD on the Subaru is superior, and I think the fuel economy on the opposed-4 Subaru might be a bit better than that of the CRV.
Good hunting!

Actually, I sold my S2000 and bought 08 CR-V for my wife. She seems to like it. The new design does grow on you eventually. I also liked the 2nd generation but 3rd generation is definitely more of CUV than the previous ones. Interior noise is something people do complain about but it isn't that bad.
Obviously, it is not as luxurious as Acura or Lexus but is quite competent crossover. Voice activated Navigation is a nice feature to have, I think. I haven't figured out all the features yet but I am sure eventually, I will. I think the resale value of CR-V is definitely better than the other makers. You can go to CR-V forums and get better information on the pricing and features.
Overall, I recommend it highly. Take it for a test drive and compare with other CUVs and see which one you and your lovely bride like best. Good luck!

Kathy's sister has had two CR-Vs....first was a 5 spd and now the current (2005?) is automatic. I've driven it a couple times and found it adequately peppy. She liked both of 'em but is probably going hybrid for her next car.
If you don't NEED the 4wd, then Beth might look at a Toyota RAV-4....which comes in a more economical 2wd version (less wt/ more mpg). Owners also seem to
them. (I don't think the CR-V comes in 2wd

Too bad they don't make a one-seater so you could leave you-know-who at home.
