Default Boilers-heating systems

I have a Wiel-McLain boiler that was installed in the house when it was built in '66. I have had the burner changed, but I am considering one of those newer high-efficiency units installed, anyone have any experience with them?

I have started my search with Buderus and Munchkin (it's really not that small )

Same here (and I'm quite happy to report that).

I'll be watching your results with a keen eye.
I think my issue is more of a controls rather than burner issue though.

ken, we replaced our behemoth (probably the original 1920's coal furnace...converted to oil) about 5 years ago....using a Peerless Burner (mf'd Boyertown PA). by coincidence, it just rec'd it's annual maintenance TODAY and is 84% efficient.

when we upgraded to this unit, we added controls and a second circulating pump/ thermosta/ etc to expand from ONE heating zone to TWO....and this has made a world of diff in comfort and economy

option: since you like "electronics" and "gadgets", maybe you should consider going to a groundwater GeoThermal loop system. just the control center would put your A/V home theater racks to shame otoh, with the mini-lake across from your rear yard, you may not have the space to run the piping loop
