A/C died
Bought a Koldfront A/C from Amazon. Due to great reviews it got. 12,000 BTU model. Died after only 2 years use. Compressor worked, but only blew hot air. So condenser prolly leaked out all the refrigerant. It was a noisy unit, from the get-go. It officially died the day the temp hit 118F, here in LA.
Put in 15,000 BTU LG unit. Darn thing weighs 120 pounds. So far so good. Does a great job of removing humidity. Even at higher temp settings. Hope the thing lasts more than 2 year. The original Panasonic was in the window, for over 20 years.

Congratulations. I see it knocked down the temperature by 4 degrees and is keeping the humidity at a very dry 45%. That will help preserve your Medcalf warplane book collection.

Hey! Much thanks! Humidity is the killer of books, for sure.

I didn't buy the extended warranty. The Koldfront gave me issues, from the start. Its "economy" mode didn't really do what they said. The fan would stay on, a good 10 minutes after the compressor stopped. The fan would cycle on/off throughout the night, even though the A/C compressor never turned on. It was NOISY! I could hear that fan from across the street. Sometimes, during the day even though there was a lot of traffic. The Koldfront seemed very cheaply made, esp compared to the LG.
So far, the LG has been good. Quiet fan, compressor kick-on is good. Hope this lasts.
BTW... for those interest. That EZ-AC window mount hardware is excellent. Adjustable to most 115 VAC window A/C units. Well-made, strong. I did use the side brackets from my old Panasonic installation to help secure any side movement (see old braces in photo)

The 20 year old Panasonic may have had R12. Longer molecule and less prone to leaking than R134 or some of the newer coolants. All in the name of global warming.
I think I read that one day of a prominent volcano eruption wiped out all the effort mankind made in regard to fluorocarbons. Mother Earth is not saving herself!

We had an old window unit for like 20 years and once it crapped out I replaced it with a 15000 BTU Frigidaire and that one only lasted 3 years. They don’t make ‘em like they used to. A friend of mine talked me into a split system and I couldn’t be happier with it. I had it installed in 2013. 24000 BTU and it even has a heat pump so if we don’t feel like running the regular heat it keeps the living room toasty.
Good luck with the LG and stay cool.
