I live north of LA 45 minutes and I didn't feel anything. I may have been jogging when it hit but I don't think my son felt it either and he was sitting. There are other threads about it and people farther away from the epicenter than me felt it.

Glad you weren't affected, Kyras. We worry about our little family whenever something happens in their neck of the woods. We'll see who else checks in.

Checkin in. Yes we felt it. A gentle but sickening roll. No sudden upheaval like the 1989 quake. It was a long one too. The pans in my kitchen were still swinging 5 minuets later. No damage at all in my town. However, two hours away it's a mess. Paso Robles was hit hard. Two reported deaths. The area of epicenter is sparsely populated. Therefore, there wasn't much reported damage. I can tell you one thing and that is that a 6.5 shakes hard. In 1989 when the 7.1 hit, we had aftershocks in the 6.5 range. Slept in my car for a week!
What we really have to worry about is the possibility that this quake is a precursor of the "big one". 8 or 9 on the Richter? That will be devastating to the California economy. For you investors out there, it'll be a great time to pick up California Real Estate. After the 1989 Loma Prieta, folks were fleeing the area in droves. Real Estate prices went on hold, dropped significantly and took 10 years to come back. After the big one, maybe you will be able to purchase ocean front property in Arizona! Hope not!

Thanks for your concern. All is well!
Hey Ralper! Went down to the Men's Wearhouse yesterday. Spent a fortune on sport coats, trousers, shirts and ties. And that was on sale! Great sale going on now! Bless their hearts. They will alter my shirts for $10/shirt. I guess that's not bad considering they are about $15 off now.

Glad there wasn't any damage there either, jfr. Let's hope this one took some of the pressure off so the big one won't be coming for a long time. It's always scary when those plates start shifting all around the globe.

We felt it here in Santa Clara. It was a long rolling quake, not a jolting quake. Fortunately no damages in the Bay Area as far as I know. There are threads posted on both the Northern and Southern CA "clubs":

Earthquake?

Did anyone just feel the earthquake?

Felt nothing in L.A., but they say that there is a 10% chance of a 6.5 or greater magnitude quake in the next 7 days
