Mike,
Given the news out of the waters off of Somalia, I have a question.
Are crews allowed weapons?
I had a discussion where another person claimed they are banned by maritime law from being armed.

I saw a segment on the news last night and it appears the crew is not allowed weapons due to laws while traveling in international waters.
hopefully he's killing the pain with a little rum and enjoying his recovery as best he can

os Put a drone in the air, follow the pirates home and send the village and the chief cheese a present or two or three. Then do the next couple pirate raids the same way. I don't understand why there wasn't an fighter jet there within minutes and a gunship as soon as they were in range.
This was an American flagged vessel.

My +1 is working on a new ship called the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). Designed for coastal waters with interchangeable mission packages on one hull. I thought it would be very useful against pirates, but now they seem to be going farther out to sea and working from mother ships. Very resourceful, those pirates. Who knows if/when/how it all will end...

I just read up on LCS's. It looks like they'd have to run out of a feeder ship or fleet as well as their range drops significantly at 40knots.
I don't know how big it is but the monohull one the just launched looks like a pretty good size ship. I understand that wide open in the shallows it digs a trench behind it. We can use some of those offshore to improve fishing.
The trimaran one looks more fuel efficient and stealthy.
cool ships

. One ship of each type of hull has been built. Another ship has just been budgeted. Not sure what type that one will be. It's a very interesting concept and has lots of potential, at least IMO. I haven't been given direct access to the CNO, however. Indirect, maybe...
