Had a cataract removed and lens implant installed 03 April. Surgery went fine. Opthalamologist seems to be quit happy with his work.

Restrictions are starting to get to me. NO lifting over 10 lbs. NO vibration. NO bending over. I thought I would be buffing some cone marks out of the car and cleaning some wheels. Not until July. Even the BBS wheels are over 30 lbs. with tires mounted.

Apparently the cataract surgery increases your chances of having a detatched retina later(10 years after). The restrictions help reduce the chance of the detatched retina.

The NO vibration thing is really getting to me. Probably should not be out in the S. It cost $60 to have someone mow our lawn. The new carburetor came for the Passport. I guess I wait until July to install and tune it.

Ahhhh, the vagaries of aging. You're in good company, Pant. Mine is still in the bud stage but will have to be removed somewhere down the line. Patience, my dear. Those things will still be there in June, which is right around the corner. And this STILL beats the alternative. Hang in there and rant all you want.

Last night I made an attempt to sleep in the recliner when I could not get comfortable in bed. It was not pretty Better living through drugs will be my new motto!

Hope your restrictions do not last too long. My mom did well with two surgeries for cataracts.

 

I'll be needing cataract surgery sometime my future if I live long enough. Mine are not yet at a stage that they need removal. I was happy at my last checkup to discover they have not progressed at all. You'll enjoy your "new" eyes when this recovery period has lapsed. Be happy its all over.

 

I didn't realize the restrictions lasted that long. No vibration, huh? Is that affecting any other areas of your life?

Have the start of cataracts and am a candidate for shoulder surgery on both, so this isn't a thread I should be reading. I plan to put it off a little longer. Where's my Jim Beam?

 

I had both eyes done in 2001. One eye in Jan, and the other in Oct. The lifting, vibration, and bending over restrictions recommended to me were only 4-6 weeks for each time. However, the doc said to avoid using a jack-hammer for a little longer.

My surgery went very well, and with no complications. However, the doctor ignored my request to make both eyes the same (new lenses), and gave me mono vision instead...which drives me crazy when I drive at night. Hence, I still have to wear glasses to "equalize" my eyes for driving, etc. For reading and working at the computer I don't need them, and it's still a wonderful thing to have my vision back...and have it corrected from being severely near-sighted all my life.

The following year the doctor had me come in for a simple lazar treatment where she "blasted" the floaters in both eyes (totally painless). That cleared my vision even more, and I whole-heartedly recommend the procedure. It's not painful, and the results are well worth the temporary inconveniences.
