Some will remember I started a deck project a ways back.
Essentially all of the rails were rotten and had to be replaced.
The stairs were worse becuase they were plain just built wrong.
They have been a royal pain in the butt since.

I was struggling with graph paper wishing I had the cad software when he popped in and informed me " dad, you know that would be much easier if you just did it on a computer..."

Well since you volunteered....

OK so this is where the deck stairs frame design is right now.
I did most of the design work but #2 son ( 18 yr old) did the cad work with Pro Desktop which is the student version of ProEngineer.
It was almost disgusting to watch the speed that he did it.
This was about 2.5 3 hours work total.

I now have my vital dimensions and most of my support structures.
Now We only have to set the dimensions of the supports and concrete.

We're just rebuilding what was there originally but doing it right this time

you can see what it looked like in the lower before demolition.

Nice deck. Will look even better when that last part is done.

That looks like a good plan. Nice deck. I would be tempted to expand the stairwell platform and create some usable deck space with a cafe table or something on it.

Fun project

structural supports and decking are pressure treated wood.
the railing are machined expanded pvc.
stuff looks and feels like wood but will never rot.

when it gets to dirty looking, I just pressure wash it.

then it looks awesome again, and I NEVER HAVE TO PAINT IT!!!!!
