Default Changing your sleep position, can you do it?

So, this issue I've had with my right shoulder (impingement) is causing sleep issues. I generally don't sleep on my right side, but sometimes I end up that way. Now, when I do, I wake up in discomfort.

I'm more comfortable sleeping on my left side with my arm under my pillow, but I get discomfort moving my right arm about and it seems sleeping with my left arm under the pillow is now aggravating my left shoulder.

I guess I need to sleep on my back, but I have trouble falling asleep in that position, and I don't stay in that position.

What's a tired gal to do? How do you train yourself to sleep in a different position than the one you have been sleeping in for years?

Drugs? Alcohol?

The trick is shims. Little pillows to tuck around you. I use four pillows. One under my head, one between my legs, or under the backs of my knees, if I'm on my back, and two for front and back, if I'm on my side.

I too, prefer sleeping on my left side, but I have been flip-flopping all over the place (except on my stomach) with my RA aches and pains.

I used to sleep on my stomach but it caused problems with my neck. I now sleep on my side or on my back. It wasn't that hard to change.

someone else said that....we are creatures of habit, even in hotel rooms we take our "usual" sides of the bed.

Why would that help anyway?
