Default Clamp on lights

I need to buy some clamp on lights to put in my garage for some supplemental lighting for my detailing business. I looked on line and the reviews were all over the place. I would pay more for a good light with a reflector that can handle some extra wattage. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have several that I use in the garage for special lighting effects or working on projects, or in the house when I oil painted. I think the inexpensive style from a box store (Lowes, etc. that just hold a 60w bulb) are as good as any as long as you have some place to clamp them.

I have one big LED light with a big magnet if I work on mechanical issues under the car or under the hood but I doubt that's what you are concerned with.

Actually Dave, the clamp ons from Home Depot got decent ratings so I am going to check them out. They are going to be clamped on to the shelving I put up.Thanks.

All i know is the harsher and whiter the light, the easier flaws in body work or paint show up. I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn, I watched Chip Foose show how to use one.

I’m not certain how you intend on using the lights, but I think you already have a preconceived opinion.

Home Depot is probably a good source with a reasonable cost. When I used to paint, color sand and buff cars and found that a bright florescent lights with omni-directional lighting gave unrealistic effects — an bright incandescent bulb within a reflector and then fitted with a diffuser provided the best results. A light stand was used so that I could adjust lighting heights and its proximity to the car(s).

Gary, I have 3 4ft. LED lights on the ceiling and they are very bright. However, there are some dark areas on the lower front and right side of vehicles I detail. I have laminated shelving around those areas and I wanted to clamp a few on to them for better lighting. The light I googled on Home Depot was around $9 and could take up to a 150 watt incandescent bulb and it has an aluminum deflector. Reviewers also used LED bulbs . Would a incandescent be better than a LED bulb for brightness.

Thanks.

Not certain if LED and incandescent lamps produce the same amount of lumens at an advertised wattage or equivalent wattage. Do know that most LEDs emit a higher kevin light temperature than an incandescent, they're much cooler to the touch, and use far less wattage.

I used these. Put the feet into DIY holders mounted on the wall. Then, you can remove the light if needed elsewhere.

[/quote]I picked up 2 clamp on lights from Home Depot and installed 150w. flood lights. Super bright and the dark areas are no longer an issue.
