I do find the save the planet bumper stickers kind of amusing.
there is very little we are going to do to destroy the planet.
basically it's a big rock in space and it's not going anywhere soon.
now if you want to maintain the surface condition as habitable for the specie homo sapein... well now why didn't you say that.

well topless,
the thermometer was invented by Fahrenheit in 1724 according to wiki, which sounds to be about the right date as I recall my middle school science class.
many are refuting the data on earths climate record by inferring that the sample size of several hundred years just isn't big enough to draw a valid conclusion.
so with regard to the information on temperature change on mars.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that we haven't had any climate data on mars that extends back beyond 30 maybe 40 years, and accurate data probably only goes back maybe 10 years. And that data is pretty macroscopic at well. essentially these are pointing IR cameras out into space.
I'm not saying it's not happening just curious about the data basis to make the conclusion.

Mirth and doom in one thread. I love it.
A side note on the (apparently) cyclical nature of climate change: I favor an equilibrium theory over celestial causation. i.e.: Something increases as average temps go up and that something (most likely producing an increase in earth's reflectivity) reverses the warming trend.
Think of it as Mother Nature

Please don't get me wrong. As I said in my previous note. I abhor pollution in all of its forms. I believe that we all have an obligation to keep our respective ares clean and safe. My other beliefs are that I will not just buy into a theory that cannot be proved. I think that temperature is dictated by climate which is dictated by many other controlling factors. Many of which we cannot and do not understand yet. I also don't believe that we should necessarily fear climate change because there is a group of people who claim it to be so. I worked for a firm about 15 years ago that built submillimeter wave components to measure the hole in the ozone. We had sent a scientist to Antarctica and there was an overwhelming consensus that life was going to be drastically changed due to this hole and the size of it. Does anyone even remember the hole in the ozone? It has become the bastard child of scientists and environmentalists alike. When was the last time that this was mentioned in the news? Isn't it still dangerous? I am pretty sure it still exists and is as large as before but why are we not afraid anymore? I hate to think that I am becoming cynical of science and predictors but I think that people who make the claim that man-made climate change is real are not looking at the big picture and all of the information that is out there, because if they were, they would not be able to make the claim. Please do not flame me for my beliefs as I am pretty willing to bet that the projects that I have worked on over the last 2 years will due more to eliminate diesel emissions and reduce our fuel consumption more than most people could do in a lifetime. Great conversation though.
