Default Dave - Healey goes for over $1M

Dave, I remember you asking why the Healeys were bringing such high prices at auction. Get a load of this result. Over $1.3M for a barn-find Healey in need of a restoration.

Of course, this is probably the most famous or infamous Austin Healey in history. It is the factory works race car that not only raced in two LeMans races and Sebring, but was also involved in the worst racing accident of all time at the 1955 LeMans.

This raw footage of the crash shows the Healey swerving to avoid the Jaguar that slows in front of it. Then the Mercedes coming up from behind, hits the Healey and vaults into the stands.

Warning, you are viewing the deaths of over 80 people.

Bill, that is an insane price - even for that car and it's documented history! Thanks for posting.

You will get a out of this comparison. The MGA world is buzzing about an MGA (in #2 condition) that went at the Gooding auction for $51,000.

Horrible crash. Even if I had that kind of money I could not justify buying that Healey, history or not.

The worst in history! When I first went to LeMans, six years later, those scenes were playing through my head as I walked the pits and looked into the stands. The area nearest the track had been redesigned, moved back, etc. in the interest of safety.

1957 MGA 1500 roadster. Probably a $35,000 car with non-standard chrome wire wheels. They said a 1963 went across the block head of it and might have made its selling price seem like small change.
