Default Dishwaser recommendations

Hi gang. Our diswasher seems to be at the end of its rope, so we are looking at replacements. The KitchenAid Architect Series II looks pretty good. The model number is KUDS03CTWH. Sears has its own version of this machine with part number KUDA03CTWH that comes with the optional power scrubber.

I can't find any reviews for this machine (under either number) and I am not a subscriber to Consumer Reports. If any of you know about this unit and can give me some feed back, it would be appreciated.

Thanks all.

Bill

I had a Kitchen Aide at the last house and it was just a regular dishwasher at a higher price, but when I built the new house I got an LG (I can't find the model number) and it is in a completely different class!!!!!

It is the "deep" one that eliminates the pump and all below the door and gives you a lot more room inside.

This thing is so quiet that all we hear is the tone when it ends (it's so quiet it has to have a tone to tell you that it is finished) and occassionally some water running out. BUT I can only hear the water running out if I happen to be standing right by the kitchen sink at the right time.

Bill, C.U. recommends Kenmore models 1373 (2) and 1374 (3). We purchased a slightly higher priced stainless Kenmore and are quite pleased.

Bill, about six months ago our Kenmore died and we were in the market, so we did some research. We ended up buying a Bosch dishwasher. It is really top of the line stuff. It uses minimal energy, and it automatically monitors the load and measures in the appropriate amount of water for each wash. And if you only have dishes in the lower basket, for example, in only sends the spray to that area. It has its own water heater so that the water temperature is controlled and is always at the optimal temperature. AND it is super quiet! Once we saw it operate we were convinced. Couldn't be happier. Should at least have a look at it. Clefer Jermans!

Counterpoint: When we did the kitchen in our Santa Fe house (this was in 1998), we put in a top-end Bosch. It was great until it died. The plumber/appliance guy whom we'd come to trust (but who had not sold us the Bosch) fixed it once--a new pump, I think-- and then, when it broke again, offered to buy it for parts. We replaced it with a Kitchenaide and were quite happy. And we put a Kitchenaide in our Boca house as well, to our great satisfaction.

I guess it's really a question of how lucky do you feel? HPH

I put in all high-efficiency appliances when I redid the kitchen, mostly European. However, I seldom used a dishwasher, so wanted a basic one without all the bells and whistles. I chose a Thermador - Model DWHD43C. Very quiet. You almost don't know it's running, unlike older models. It cost me $699, but that might be a builder price. Also was the F model, which required a front panel, since I got a panel to match the cabinets.

A side note - I found out a couple of weeks ago that the appliance company I got all the appliances from went bankrupt and closed suddenly, leaving about 300 customers out thousands of dollars with no appliances. It was quite a shock in the business community, since they had a good reputation. So glad I finished my project last spring!

Wow. I wasn't even considering Kenmore. The salesperson at Sears did say that some of the top end Kenmores were built for them by KitchenAid. I wonder if those top models are made by KitchenAid. Thanks for the info.

Dean and HPH,

I have to say that Doc's story of reliability issues are not uncommon with Bosch products. That is why I have not seriously considered Bosch.

The sales person at BB cautioned that LG machines are a bit taller than others and may not fit in the opening in the counter. Did you have any trouble with the install?
