Do you think like this too?
Over the past 10 years or so, right after turning Vintage, I noticed I/we start to look at some things differently and wonder if you all do the same.
Here are some examples.
About five years ago we had our house up for sale. Around here two story Cape Cod style houses are common, we have a ranch style (one floor). While looking around I didn't want to see the two story houses unless it had bedrooms and bathrooms on both floors, just in case something happened to either one of us and we could not climb stairs.
About 10 years ago, we had a soft sided water bed. It leaked. Rick fixed it. It leaked again, we dumped it and got a conventional mattress. Part of my reasoning was that I didn't want to deal with the water bed, a. when we got older b. if something happened to Rick.
While re-decorating our living room I had a hard time deciding between wallpaper and paint. I like wallpaper, to me it's warmer. BUT as I was trying to decide, one of my thoughts was if we re-paper, do we want to deal with wallpaper again in another 10 years...?
I did throw caution to the wind and went with wallpaper again.
A while back we were talking about how we will need to have the house re-sided and most likely a new roof before we retire....the next time it would need that kind of work, we'd be, well dead.
Before we go on a trip, I make sure my sister (family attorney) has a current list of our bank accounts, insurance info, etc... in case, well you know....
So am I the only one with this quirk, or do others think way too far ahead as well. It's a bit gloomy, I know.

No. None of the above.... and I've got you beat by several years.
Our laundry is in the basement and bedrooms on the second floor. Climbing stairs is good exercise.
I've never slept on a waterbed. Kids had them. Pain in the butt. Loved flushing the last one out the 2nd story window.
Wallpapers - it's ok up but another one of those pain in the butt things getting off. I prefer paintings to wallpaper.
None of my kids / relatives have any lists of anything we have.
I don't give thought to any of those things. When I'm half asleep in bowl of jello I'll have time to think about that.

I thought all parents did that. I know my Dad often showed us where he kept all his important papers, and Rick's Dad gave us a list as well, "just in case."
Rick's Dad passed away very suddenly, so having the info and proper paperwork helped us do what we needed to to take care of Rick's Mom who couldn't take care of herself.

I'm highly organized so it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to trace things down if needed.
I've been handling affairs for my mother who passed away on Jun 13th at age 89. I think she started telling me how she wanted medical, funeral, and financial things done when she was about 39. She then reminded me every year after. Drove me crazy and I told her so many times. After 50 years of her planning to die there was still lots of loose ends. If I'm not around, someone will figure it out... all they have to do is watch the mail. Sooner or later your entire life shows up in the mailbox after you're gone.

Well, when I renewed my Antelope Valley newspaper subscription a couple months ago, for 2 years, I thought, will I even live here in 2 years? But for me, it was because I was already thinking of leaving Andy, not that I'd be dead. I won't be here.
