+1

While I strongly prefer the idea of driving my own car, it isn't ME I'm most worried about when I'm on the road. Well, I mean, yes, I'm worried about me being safe, but not so much protecting others *from* me. Quite the opposite. Enthusiasts are, as Ralper pointed out, in the minority. Driving well is a point of personal pride to most of us. For the majority of the rest of the population, however, it really isn't something they care about. Driving is frequently seen as a necessary evil in their day. Being used by *them*, those safety features could easily be what saves *your* life.

^^^ Good points! Still at first blush I would have thought that cars like the Genesis coupe and the high end luxury cars would be driven mostly by enthusiasts. But around here I see the likes of MBs, BMWs and Porsche Cayennes being driven as a DD to take the kids to school and go to the post office - cars that never leave the city limits! For me even the S2000 VSA is intrusive. If I forget to turn it off at the track I find myself without power when exiting a turn.

I'm with Gene. I have to think twice to remember how to turn on headlights in a car w/o the auto feature. We grow accustomed to all these auto features and forget our basic driving needs/skills.

I'd say make everyone take a driving test every 3-5 years, and weed out the people who can't drive!

Wouldn't work, especially if the tests are anything like they give here in New Jersey. Most everyone passes.

Just look around at the people on the road today. They all passed the driving test at one time or another.

OK... if that won't work, let me mount a couple of 50 caliper machine guns on my hood.

I'll thin the herd!

^^ Trying to imagine what a 50 caliPer machine gun looks like. At least we will know it's precise.

Yeah, give me a horse and a buggy any day. Mark my words: these new fangled automobile contraptions with those internal combustion engine things are going to be nothing but trouble!
