Do You Trust Me?
I don't know. We are all enthusiasts, we enjoy driving and take it very seriously. We don't want or need the car to think for us. Unfortunately, we are the minority. Based on what I see on the road every day, not only do most people need these features, they need much more. I have seen things on the road in the last couple of years that I never imagined in my wildest dreams that people would be foolish enough to do.
As much as I dislike the idea of Google's self driving car, it may be the only way to keep the roads safe.

While I strongly prefer the idea of driving my own car, it isn't ME I'm most worried about when I'm on the road. Well, I mean, yes, I'm worried about me being safe, but not so much protecting others *from* me. Quite the opposite. Enthusiasts are, as Ralper pointed out, in the minority. Driving well is a point of personal pride to most of us. For the majority of the rest of the population, however, it really isn't something they care about. Driving is frequently seen as a necessary evil in their day. Being used by *them*, those safety features could easily be what saves *your* life.
^^^ Good points! Still at first blush I would have thought that cars like the Genesis coupe and the high end luxury cars would be driven mostly by enthusiasts. But around here I see the likes of MBs, BMWs and Porsche Cayennes being driven as a DD to take the kids to school and go to the post office - cars that never leave the city limits!
For me even the S2000 VSA is intrusive. If I forget to turn it off at the track I find myself without power when exiting a turn.

I'm with Gene. I have to think twice to remember how to turn on headlights in a car w/o the auto feature. We grow accustomed to all these auto features and forget our basic driving needs/skills.

Just look around at the people on the road today. They all passed the driving test at one time or another.

OK... if that won't work, let me mount a couple of 50 caliper machine guns on my hood.

I'll thin the herd!
Yeah, give me a horse and a buggy any day. Mark my words: these new fangled automobile contraptions with those internal combustion engine things are going to be nothing but trouble!
