In 1989, my wife and I bought our first house together that had something called a "habitat" installed in the master suite. It had a steam sauna, sun lamps and a gentle shower mode. You lay down in it - there was no room to sit up. It had sliding smoked glass doors and the unit was Fiberglass. It was built into the house, not a stand-along unit. It also had internal speakers and was hooked up to the house stereo system. It was made by Kohler. I'm sure it wasn't cheap.

You could use any of the "modes" separately, or you could go through a sequence of modes, starting with heat lamps, going to a steam bath then to a gentle shower IIRC.

This habitat worked nice but since the master bedroom lacked closet space, I gutted it and made it into a walk-in closet (the unit along with the controls and access panels behind it took up quite a bit of space).

^ The contractor is talking about using the existing room that my toilet is in, and tileing the room. The actual "steam generator" would be in the master closet. He said that the steam unit is is about the size of the tank on my toilet. We would than take my shower out and use that area to put the toilet.
